Meet David
David Sabry Guirgis, LMSW is a social worker, organizer, and democratic socialist with lifelong roots in Jersey City. David grew up in poverty and an abusive childhood environment, but it was his mother's resilience — as well as her ability to get a free four-year college education and a union job as a patient care technician — that lifted her and her children out.
For his entire career, David has helped lead campaigns to tax the rich, end legacy college admissions, and fight for trans rights in Congress. And in Jersey City, he helped pass Right to Counsel and hold landlords accountable, keeping thousands of tenants in their homes.
Now, he's running for Hudson County Commissioner in District 4 to deliver free community college for all; build green social housing and deliver universal childcare on county-owned land; and audit everything to end county corruption.
What is a County Commissioner?
County Commissioners run the county government. In Hudson County, they vote on a budget of over $700 million and decide how your tax dollars are spent.
They fund and oversee core public services, including:
Think of a County Commissioner like a City Councilmember for the whole county. They pass local laws that affect housing, transit, parking, and public safety—and they decide how much each department gets.
Yet most people don't know who their commissioner is or what they do. That's why accountability matters—and why this race matters.
District 4 includes the Heights, Journal Square, McGinley Square, and the West Side.
People-powered. No exceptions.
No corporate PAC money. No developers. No dark money. Just working people who believe Hudson County can do better.

Audit Everything
Hudson County carries an operating budget of over $700 million per year — and we run on a surplus. So why are our county schools facing an $11 million budget deficit?
Green Social Housing
We deserve housing we can afford and childcare for all. The county is selling public land to private developers instead of using it for the kind of social housing other cities are already building.
Universal Childcare
Childcare for all should be embedded in every county service and program — including onsite daycare for Hudson County Community College students. As County Commissioner, I will ensure that childcare is a central component of any public program or initiative we launch.
Free HCCC
We deserve to learn. Education is a right — Hudson County Community College has changed lives across this county, including my own mother. It should be free for everyone, no questions asked.
